Artemisia Annua, also known as Sweet Wormwood, has a long and storied history. It is native to temperate and subtropical regions of Asia, but was first used in Traditional Chinese Medicine over 2,000 years ago to treat malaria and other fevers. The first recorded use of Artemisia Annua as a remedy for malaria was in 340 B.C. by a Chinese emperor named Qin Shi Huang. In the 16th century, it was officially recorded in the Chinese medical literature as a remedy for malaria. The plant has since spread to other parts of the world, and its medicinal uses are still widely accepted in modern times. In the 1970s, Chinese scientists discovered the active ingredient in Artemisia annua, artemisinin, which is now widely used to treat malaria. Today, Artemisia annua is grown and harvested around the world and has become a popular natural remedy for many ailments.
