WHERE DID YOGA COME FROM?

WHAT DOES YOGA MEAN?

The history of yoga dates back to ancient India, over 5,000 years ago. It is believed to have been practiced by some of the Indus-Sarasvati civilization in the Indian subcontinent. The earliest written records of yoga can be found in the Upanishads - ancient texts that contain philosophical and spiritual teachings. The word ‘Yoga’ is derived from the Sanskrit root ‘yuj’, which means ‘to unite’ or ‘to join’ and is associated with the idea of joining the individual consciousness to the universal consciousness. This union is thought to be the purpose of yoga, and its deeper meaning lies in its ability to bring the body, mind and spirit into harmony. Yoga is a practice of physical and mental disciplines with the aim of transforming body, mind and soul, in order to reach a higher level of consciousness. It is a practice that can help you gain peace, clarity & strength.
